Barangay
Imelda, San Jacinto- Barangay Imelda of San
Jacinto an agricultural community with 78.54 hectares farm area, a producer of
citrus fruits, population of 11,280, number of households- 260, and with a
registered voters of at least 700. This agricultural barangay is headed by an agricultural awardees of Department of Agriculture on Gender and Development
Program, Punong Barangay Trinidad V. Velasco. A recipient of No. 1 Regional
Awardees on said program with a P30,000.00 cash prize and P20,000.00 being top
6 national awardees. Madam Velasco a graduate of Bachelor of Science in
Agriculture at SEPNAS has been an instructress of agriculture subjects at
Pangasinan State University, Bayambang, Pangasinan. She has been elected as
Punong Barangay in 1997 -2002 which one term then was five years. Subsequently,
she rested for a while in politics to ensure her children’s studies and success
in their chosen professional career. Later on she re-entered politics in 2010
and won with overwhelming margin over her two other opponents.
PB Velasco has also organized the
Imelda, San Jacinto Farmer’s League Association which is duly registered with
the Securities and Exchange Commission. This farmer’s association has been a recipient of the Department of
Agriculture outreach program thru Farmers Field School administered by Local
Farmers Technician Program. On June 24, 2014, there were about 32 recipients on
Farmers Field School on Corn Production. Likewise, on October 16,2014, there
were at least 28 graduates on Rice/Palay production. They were given a certification
as graduates on farming on specific field by the Department of Agriculture and
were give each sack of fertilizer and “binhi” subsidy from the Municipal
Agriculture Office.
